STUDENT LEADERSHIP

GRPS Class Captain, SRC and Environment Representative election policy

Students at GRPS are provided opportunities to develop their leadership skills throughout Kindergarten to Year 6.

SRC representative

Each class elects two students to represent them on The Student Representative Council. This role is the most prestigious. Elected students attend fortnightly SRC meetings to bring class questions/ideas/concerns and then share the meeting discussion points with the class.

At the beginning of the school year, students who are interested in nominating for this role prepare and present a short speech in class. Students then vote to elect the 2 representatives. Students are awarded badges that they wear on their school uniform.

Class Captains

Each term (or each semester K-2), two students from each class are elected class captains. The role of class captain varies with each class or stage, but involves jobs, such as; answering the class phone, taking messages to other classrooms, distributing lunch orders, or returning lost property, awarding class certificates, ensuring that the room is tidy etc. These students are presented with a class captain badge that is worn as part of their uniform for the term or semester. It is intended that all students are given the opportunity during their time at GRPS to be a class captain.

When a student nominates at the beginning of the term, the teacher will ensure that only students who have not previously held the role are eligible to stand for the election.

Environment Representatives

At the beginning of the year, two students nominate (or are elected if more than two candidates) from each class to be the environment officers. They then attend the weekly meeting of the school environment club The Clean Green Dream Team where they participate in activities that benefit our school environment and learn strategies to minimise our footprint on the environment. In the classroom they are responsible to ensure that lights, heaters and air conditioners are turned off when not in use. Gardening and minimising waste are also goals of the team. Each member receives a badge to wear on their school uniform and is responsible for positively encouraging environmentally sound practices.
